Milton Keynes party leaders join forces to judge the Biztech BrightSparc Awards

Two of the leading politicians in Milton Keynes will be joining forces to judge this year's Biztech BrightSparc Awards.

Labour councillor Pete Marland, the Leader of Milton Keynes Council, and Conservative councillor Edith Bald, the Leader of the Opposition, are joining the panel of judges in this year's search for the best technological innovations in the region.

Fredi Nonyelu, chairman of the Biztech business and technology forum, said: “It is reassuring that the city's politicians are united on the importance of technological innovation and have agreed to join our judging panel.

“The Biztech BrightSparc Awards are revealing some exciting innovation across the SEMLEP area, which includes MK and we are sure the judges will be amazed and impressed.”
The awards are open for nominations until Friday, June 3, with the winners announced at MKEX Technology Exhibition, at stadium:mk on Wednesday, June 22.

Joining Pete and Edith on the panel are Jan Flawn CBE, from PJ Care, Silvia Vitiello, of Kingston Smith, Dr Nick Lancaster, from the University of Bedfordshire, Alan Fletcher, from the The Open University and Debra Leighton, of the University of Bedfordshire Business School.

The organisers have also announced this year's sponsors. They are the Transport Systems Catapult, Milton Keynes Business Leaders Partnership, UCMK and Leading Edge Only.
Scott Sharp of Leading Edge Only (LEO) said he is “extremely proud to sponsor the Biztech BrightSparc Awards for the second year.”

He added: “Innovation is key to the growth of any economy and the Biztech BrightSparc Awards are crucial in allowing students, entrepreneurs and businesses an opportunity to further promote the innovative solutions they have or are developing.

“To further help support these innovators, LEO will promote all entries in the Biztech Awards on its Global Innovation Marketplace to help further raise the awareness of their solutions to corporations worldwide.”

The LEO Global Innovation Marketplace is accessed by major corporations and other organisations from over 100 countries and provides a platform for innovators to showcase their technologies, products and services to organisations globally so they, in turn, had a faster route to finding the solutions they needed.
