Opportunity for companies to take researchers on European Commission-funded Data Science project

A consortium led by Prof Massimo Melucci of the University of Padua in Italy would like to put together a proposal for a European funded project on Quantum-inspired Data Science (QUADS) and is looking for applications from would be project partners.

The University of Bedfordshire, a Biztech member, is asking its local community for potential project partners to participate in the H2020 ITN QUADS application.

Participating companies would be invited to train Early Career Researchers (ESRs) for 3-6 months secondments. If QUADS is funded, all ESRs will be paid full time during the secondments at your company by European Commission. 

Prof Melucci has been successful in the past in winning a prestigious €3.3m European grant H2020 ITN Project on Quantum Information Access and Retrieval Theory (QUARTZ).

“This QUADS proposal started from the idea of transferring the scientific research results and expertise from senior researchers in the utilisation of Quantum Mechanical Framework (QTF) and of Data Science (DS) to the junior researchers, thus stimulating the birth and growth of a networked European community of scholars with a larger, stronger, and deeper expertise in DS than that traditionally provided by programmes in Statistics or in Computer Science.

“The proposal is based on the three pillars of the QTF to build a new approach to DS, since this framework would provide new geometrical, statistical and logical tools to draw information and form knowledge and data. The senior researchers involved in this proposal as beneficiary, partners or independent advisory committee members are leading researchers in their respective multidisciplinary research fields, because they have been facing the issues of DS (large data volumes, data heterogeneity, user interaction) since the 1990s. The content of this proposal itself is the result of a cooperative work of academic, industry and governmental organisations and its research staff.”

The proposal, for companies is to train 15 Early Career Researchers (ESRs) through QUADS project, all 15 will need to experience a couple of 3-6months secondments at related project partners.

Participating project partners will be invited to discuss a plan for how many ESRs we will sent to you  and at which stage.

If QUADS is funded, all ESRs will be paid full time during the secondments at your company by European Commission. 

The things that the company needs to do is to provide the ESRs work space, somebody to supervise the ESR, and agreed problem and data to work on between the company and the university supervisors.
